Week #1: Blogger Beginnings

Knowing how to create a blog is a fantastic skill in today’s technological age. The creation of this particular blog was relatively simple thanks to the user-friendly step-by-step instructions of the blog service. The blog was set-up and ready to use in just a few minutes. Blogs are a fantastic resource for librarians to utilize and the ease of blog creation makes it a feasible tool.

Blogs themselves have several advantages for today’s libraries. They are a free service that can allow libraries to reach a large number of patrons instantly. Through the use of RSS feeds patrons can subscribe to blog updates which will ensure that they can stay abreast of library happenings. Patrons also have the opportunity to comment on posts made by library staff. This feature also allows patrons to offer suggestions to library staff on everything from book requests to the type of library events that they would like to see. This allows patrons to feel a part of their library.

In today’s technological age, patrons depend less on their library and more on technologies like the internet. Blogs are a relatively new medium that allow libraries to stay connected with their patrons in a convenient, user-friendly manner.

Technology is a wonderful thing...stay tuned :-)
